about

Bucharest techno trio Amorf is set to astound their fans with their highly anticipated EP, "Newfound Land." Breaking away from the minimal techno sound they are known for, Amorf drops an unprecedented bold release that explores new genres and fuses atonal jazz improvisation with broken
beats.

After a three-year wait for a new album, clubbing fans have been eagerly anticipating Amorf's next release, actively questioning the band on social media. While staying true to their unique aesthetic, the trio, composed of the minimal techno artists Cristi Cons and Vlad Caia (aka SIT) alongside the neoclassical pianist Mischa Blanos, decided to deviate from expectations and deliver a work that pushes the boundaries of conventional genres and showcases their willingness to experiment.
From the very beginning, Amorf promised a project free from constraints, allowing them the freedom to explore any direction they desired.
And now, time has arrived for "Newfound Land": a rebellious departure from the formula that put them on the map in the clubbing scene. This is their revolt against the recipe that works.

When asked about the shift from producing dancefloor-oriented sound to their current crossbreed experimentation, Cristi Cons shared his thoughts "We wanted to break free from the usual stuff and see how far our creative minds can expand. The safe ground wasn't enough anymore and we wanted to dive into unknown waters that minimal techno simply couldn't satisfy." With a touch of honesty, he added, "Sure, maybe some fans will be scratching their heads or even feeling a bit mad at us, but we genuinely believe our audience is open-minded and mature enough to roll with it. We have created something unexpected, something they wouldn't necessarily hear on the dancefloor and we hope our fans are up for the adventure."

As a listener, you are invited to step through the Side Door, the first piece of the EP, where the heartbeat of this track lies in the hypnotic Moog bassline, a signature sound that one can find in almost every Amorf
piece. The atypical higher pitch bassline commands the spotlight, assuming the role of a soloist, further entwined with celestial synths and dissonant chords reverberating from Mischa's Rhodes piano.
Unveiling as the EP's single and making its debut on BBC6 Radio Music, Flip the Page creates an atmosphere rich with tension and mystery reminiscent of a James Bond-esque intrigue. When composing the foundational bass loop, the artists were inspired by the basso continuo from Baroque music, while scattered sonar-like
signals crafted through modular effects blend with the classical elegance of the piano, enveloping the composition in an otherworldly aura. Closing the EP, Mannequin delves further into the realm of jazz improv with its intricate layers and dissonant tones. The abrasive industrial sounds akin to colliding metal on metal add a raw edge, while the percussion artfully emulates the syncopated rhythms of a live jazz drummer.

The artwork was created by Chris Scarlat from Cultural Design in Berlin. Depicting a surrealistic purple triangle emerging from stormy seas, it visually symbolizes Amorf's exploration of new grounds amidst
shifting waters. This striking collaboration between Cultural Design and Longcut Records sets the tone for the transformative journey that awaits listeners within the depths of this EP.
